Job Title: Sewing Equipment Technician

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor

Best is Indiana’s largest residential furniture manufacturer employs a special-order, fast-delivery business model that relies heavily on sewing operations in Indiana. Overview: Sewing machine technicians are responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing sewing machines and related equipment.The position requires mechanical aptitude, basic electrical and controls skills, troubleshooting skills and ability to work well with people. Efficient time management and the ability to work with minimal supervision are required. Work schedules will mirror production operations and some overtime is required. Advancement opportunities in wage and responsibility follow successful job performance and expanded knowledge of equipment.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and record work via an assigned tablet computer
  • Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of sewing machines
  • Collaborate with sewing supervisors and operators to diagnose performance concerns with sewing equipment
  • Visually and audially inspect and test sewing machines and related equipment
  • Dismantle defective machines and equipment and install new or repaired parts
  • Install and repair electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of sewing machines and related equipment
  • Fine tune computerized and non-computerized sewing machines for peak performance
  • Set up and operate machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts
  • Fabricate and repair counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures associated with sewing equipment
  • Collaborate with equipment suppliers and other technicians to resolve complex issues and identify new and improved equipment that benefits production,
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements: While no formal education or prior sewing machine experience is required, prior maintenance and/or machine service experience is a plus. Prior experience with sewing machine maintenance is a distinguishing characteristic that will be considered in wage determination.

Education or experience required: High School or equivalent
